Each time an event ends, there is a word that stands out, a word that defines the event. I have in my mind the word that defines the event in Paraguay: worship. We hammered each nail in worship, for God. We gave attention to each ill person in worship, for the glory of God. We ate each sandwich for His glory and we slept for His glory, in adoration. People at the event saw us worshipping and they wanted what we had. Blessed be the Lord. This is why the word "Worship," summarizes the event in Paraguay perfectly.
After the first event in February 2010, we began to work on the second phase of the event, which had as the goal the reconstruction of Haiti. Even though this was not possible due to the fact that we did not see much advance in the country, once again we were able to provide aid assistance to the victims of the earthquake. Considered one of the poorest places in Brazil, the valley of Jequitinhonha, or better known as the valley of misery, is described by its inhabitants as “the place where no one wants to go and help.” This fact motivated more than 100 volunteers from Proyecto America to do an event in this remote place of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Just two weeks away from the earthquake in the city of Port au Prince, the first Proyecto America team goes to provide aid to thousands of people. The team of more than 120 volunteers, assisted thousands of individuals who were victims of this catastrophic event in this country. Located close to the city of Richmond in Virginia, Chesterfield inhabits thousands of Latinos living in poverty due to their immigration situation. This is where Proyecto America went, to offer help to those people, concentrated mainly in homes located in mobile home parks. The “La Mascota” Hospital for children with cancer was the purpose of the international event of Proyecto America in Nicaragua. Three hundred volunteers were present in this city and for a week they worked in all sorts of jobs such as remodeling and restoring of the hospital, donations of medical equipment, as well as electronic items and miscellaneous. Besides the work at the hospital, fifty homes were built for people living in situations of extreme poverty.
This city that surrounds Buenos Aires, inhabits one of the characteristic belts of misery that surrounds large cities. Thousands of people that come from the interior of the country looking for jobs in the capital end up living in poverty situations, stuck in this place. It was to this place where more than 600 volunteers went and for a week gave assistance to thousands.
An hour away from the capital, San Cristobal is a much populated city in this region of the country. Months ago, this city was shaken by the tropical storm Noel, which left behind a major mess with the destruction of concrete bridges because of the fury of its winds and the strength of the river. In response to this need, Proyecto America sent a team of 300 volunteers with the purpose of constructing homes in order to mobilize those living by the river to more secure areas.
